EA&E staff are stewarding a suite of projects to address environmental and regulatory aspects of U.S nuclear materials. The work you can read about in this set of stories includes a broad set of missions, including consent-based siting for storage of spent nuclear fuel, in which stakeholders would be consulted regarding the location of used nuclear fuel storage. Other projects will develop nuclear-facility decommissioning guidance; enhance radiation portal monitoring and validation; analyze the materials used in building spent-fuel storage pool for integrity and signs of corrosion; and help site the first small modular reactor in U.S.
